Success. Failure. Struggle. In business. I’ve walked that walk! And built a worldwide business from broke.
Life Behind The Scenes With The Ironing Diva "center">
The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies is the hook I hang my business hat on. This accidental, rural business, is a dream come true. One of the highlights of my life. This is my journey through the roller coaster world of business. And the choices I make in how to run my dream of a lifetime.

Business Is A Tough Gig. Everyone Is In The People Business.
Think about it.
Every face to face interaction. Or online transaction. You and I have. Is with people.
Not only are we in selling mode almost all the time. Whether we like it. Or not.
Trying to get people to see our point of view. Accept our opinion about a subject. Trying to persuade them to join our crusade. Buy our product. Join our religious group. Whatever.
We are also in the business of dealing with people.
One of the most memorable quotes attributed to Howard Schultz, Founder and CEO of Starbucks: “We are not in the coffee business serving people, but in the people business serving coffee.”
And being in the people business. We need to understand the nuances and intricacies of dealing with people.
And we need to know the triggers that make people like us. Trust us. And for a business like mine, The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies, open their wallets to purchase any one of my 7 products.
Ask somebody what their favourite restaurant is. And many will answer. Where the owner. And the waiters. Know my name.
How many people who drink go to the same pub every day? Because the bartender knows what they like to drink?
As soon as I walk into my newsagent, he knows what magazines I’ve asked to be put away. And pulls them out from under the counter. Even though he. And she. Are a major outlet for my nearest regional town, Bathurst NSW. And have a gazillion customers.
Christine at the cosmetics counter at Big W in Bathurst. Knows me. Knows what make-up I buy. And if my favourite colour is discontinued, she recommends the next best choice.
Why would I go to Target? Or Priceline? Who don’t know me. And don’t know my preferences?
Even the staff at St Vincent de Paul in Bathurst NSW. Who I frequent at every opportunity. Pull me aside as soon as I enter their shop. To show me things they think I might be interested in.
My worldwide, online business, The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies, is very much a people business.
Even though I have 400,000 customers. In 30 countries. A caller still expects me to recognise them when they ring!
Of course I do! My database is so comprehensive, I can pick up from the last conversation we had.
Because customers feel like they’re family. They leave lovely comments on their online orders.
And willingly participate in talkfests when ordering by telephone.
And expect me know when their last order was. As well as what they ordered.
What colour ironing board cover did I order last time is a frequent question. As well as. When was my last order?
Which I do know!
When you know you are in the people business, people who deal with you feel like they belong to your sphere of influence.
And they feel a part of you. And your world.
Regardless of what you do. Whether you’re a parent. A significant other. A CEO of a major company. You. And I. Are in the people business. And we need to know what our people like. Want. And expect from us.
