Many of my customers for The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies envy my rural lifestyle.
Living and working from my 54 hectare beautiful remote rural property in the picturesque Central Tablelands of NSW.
Human nature being what it is, we all want something we don’t have.
I’ve always wanted a big enclosed porch. American style.
But I think I’d have no trouble settling for this gorgeous sunroom/conservatory.
With a beautiful big table to sit it.
I have a fetish for ‘beautiful tables to sit at’.
There is nothing more luxurious than a beautifully set table. With cloth napkins.
And table linen. If that’s your fancy.
Crisply pressed on a Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. Of course.
Add a gorgeous centrepiece.
Charming company. Even if it’s only you. Sipping a cup of tea.

Crimson Rosellas. Relaxing. In A Gleditsia Tree.
I run my worldwide business, The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies, from my remote rural property in the beautiful Central Tablelands of NSW.
Not only is my location isolated. With no real near neighbours. And the closest rural town a 45 minute drive in one direction.
But I’m an online business.
Which is based on anonymity.
I rarely get to meet my online customers in person. As you do when you own a shop. Where customers are passing by every day. Saying G’day. And two way conversations ensue at the drop of a hat.
But this week was a true bonanza for catching up. And chit chat of the best kind.

My landline is my lifeline between me and my customers.
It’s old fashioned technology. But it’s my technology of choice when I need to get in touch with a customer.
Urgently.
This was an occasion when it was my turn to make a phone call.
An online order was for an Extra Large Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. And a Superior Felt Underlay.
I make it clear on my shopping cart that the Superior Felt Underlay WILL NOT fit an extra large ironing board.

Welcome Swallows On A Wire. In Early Dappled Light.
When a nurse comes to work, they’re expected to be prepared to give their all. To the patients in their care. And to the hospital that employs them.
But often. What happens in their personal life before they come to work. Affects their attitude when they arrive.
Sometimes life gets in the way of them being able to give their very best.
Some nurses are also mothers and fathers of young children. Who are demanding in their own way.
Lunches to make. School drop offs to do.
Tantrums. Or emotional meltdowns – which are different. Where children – or a partner – are spinning out of control. Have to be managed.

A Bee On A Wild Verbascum In The Paddocks
Once a week I take the time to trawl through the accounts of the people I follow on social media.
99% of them being men. And women. In business.
I was especially interested in a blogpost written by a gal who spruiks herself as being an expert in communication. And social media.
This is a gal who I really like. And who does interesting work.
Her post revolves around all the reasons why she doesn’t answer her telephone.
I am dumbfounded. I can’t believe this is a communications expert – who doesn’t answer her phone?!
In her world, being productive doing client work is more important than talking on the telephone.
To clients. When they want to talk to her.
And of course. The ‘hoi polloi’. Who might want to engage her. But can’t. Because she removes herself from their presence.
She has an approved list of callers. Whose calls she will answer in her own time.

Burning Off. Close To The Woolshed.
I run my worldwide business, The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies, from my 54 hectare remote rural property.
In the picturesque Central Tablelands of NSW.
My business is a full time job.
And so is our rural property.
Owning a rural property comes with responsibilities.
To the local council.
To the Lands Department.
And to our neighbours.
In our rural patch, blackberry is a noxious weed. The seeds are spread by the birds. And foxes. Who eat the berries.

Spring has sprung in the southern hemisphere.
And outdoor eating will be de rigueur for many of us.
Especially those of us who have large country gardens.
Many of my rural farming friends have huge outdoor tables. Too big for indoors. Passed down from one generation to the other. The timber planks of the tables mellowed. With a patina of sheen. Created by the passing of time.
I vividly remember my first invitation to a family gathering. On a farm in Mudgee NSW. 40 family members. All gathered to celebrate the birthday of the father. Second generation farmer.
Under the shade of huge eucalyptus trees.
Three tables were lined up. With mismatched chairs.
Covered in mismatched table linen.
Tablecloths. And napkins. All garnered from charity shops. And hand me downs from family. Over decades.
And ironed on Val’s treasured Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover.

The ‘Yippee Tree’.
At least once a week. For 24 years. My partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother. To help her with her ironing when she was recovering from a stroke.
And I.
Post parcels. For orders for The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies.
At Bathurst Post Office.
It’s an hour’s drive. One way. Along two lane. Winding. Rural roads. Up. And down hills.

When I finished university in the country of my birth, America. My first job was working at George Washington University. In Washington, DC.
I worked for the Dean of the School Of Business Administration.
It was a small office.
Dr Docherty. The Dean. And his personal secretary. Sophie Goff. Who had worked for him for more than 20 years.
I was a newcomer to the office.
In the Mad Men era.
I was assigned to working with the MBA students. Many of which were mature students. Returned officers from the war in Vietnam.
One such student was John. A Commander in the Navy.
John was an avid sailor. And sailed every opportunity on the Chesapeake Bay.
Every so often, he would invite friends to sail with him.
I accepted his first invitation.
Although I’m not a sailor. Never will be. I loved the experience.
And at the end of the day. His guests were invited back to his terrace house in historic Georgetown. In the salubrious inner city of Washington DC. Located on the Potomac River.

I’m a great believer that ambience changes everything.
Tenements have been transformed by the addition of window boxes in all apartments. Planted out with beautiful flowers. Tended by the occupants.
Add a lick of paint to the front door.
And you have a change of attitude about where you live.
Tonight in my farmhouse is the night I iron my cloth napkins for the week.
Many moons ago I banned paper napkins. And plastic dishes. Other than refrigerator storage containers.
From my farmhouse.
We use cloth napkins, in napkin rings, every day. Breakfast. Lunch. And dinner.

G'day from 'The High Country' in rural Victoria.
Thank you for visiting my website. I love that you're here.
Your participation in my rural business is a dream come true. One of the highlights of my life.
Whenever I visit a new website. I always want to know how much postage and handling is.
So upfront. Our flat rate postage and handling charge is $16.95 per parcel.
Regardless of how many items you put in your parcel. Or where you are located within Australia.
We live and work from our remote rural property in 'The High Country' of Victoria.
In the picturesque foothills of the Victorian Alps.
All parcels are despatched via Australia Post.
Our post office is in a remote location. So we post parcels once a week.
We hope you understand how the tyranny of distance affects a business that is in a remote, rural village.
We post parcels on Thursday. From orders received by 3pm on the day before. Wednesday. And send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
For our international customers, please check with Customs in your country to see if they impose extra charges on your parcel once it enters your country.
For my UK customers. It's with regret that I will be unable to continue to post parcels to the UK. The new requirement from the UK is that VAT be collected by all online merchants when an order is placed. And paid to the UK before your parcel leaves Australia. As well as. Calculate the duties payable on your parcel. To be able to complete a customs declaration. Unfortunately. I'm too small a company to justify the infrastructure required to do this.
Every Thursday. From our rural alpine village. We post orders received by 3PM on Wednesday.
We then send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
And we hope you love everything in your parcel. ~Carol❤️
