Welcome Swallows On A Wire. In Early Dappled Light.
When a nurse comes to work, they’re expected to be prepared to give their all. To the patients in their care. And to the hospital that employs them.
But often. What happens in their personal life before they come to work. Affects their attitude when they arrive.
Sometimes life gets in the way of them being able to give their very best.
Some nurses are also mothers and fathers of young children. Who are demanding in their own way.
Lunches to make. School drop offs to do.
Tantrums. Or emotional meltdowns – which are different. Where children – or a partner – are spinning out of control. Have to be managed.

I’m a great believer that ambience changes everything.
Tenements have been transformed by the addition of window boxes in all apartments. Planted out with beautiful flowers. Tended by the occupants.
Add a lick of paint to the front door.
And you have a change of attitude about where you live.
Tonight in my farmhouse is the night I iron my cloth napkins for the week.
Many moons ago I banned paper napkins. And plastic dishes. Other than refrigerator storage containers.
From my farmhouse.
We use cloth napkins, in napkin rings, every day. Breakfast. Lunch. And dinner.

To most of us.
But not all of us.
Ambience is everything.
The character.
And atmosphere.
Of our surroundings.
Determines how we feel.
If we’re craving peace and quiet, a noisy place just doesn’t cut it.
When working. In any environment. The more we relate to the atmosphere of our surroundings. The more at peace we are. And the more we achieve.

Time never stands still.
It’s always on the move.
And with time. Times change.
As do the meaning of words.
Up until the end of the 1950’s, women with stars in their eyes dreamt of marrying their high school sweetheart. Having a memorable honeymoon. And then coming back to reality to start a new life as a ‘homemaker’.
It was a role in life that many women aspired to be.
These were the women who kept their families together. Teaching their children manners. Keeping sibling rivalry under control.

I’ve never believed that chores should stare me in the face. And weigh me down with the pressure of having to do them.
Which is why I have certain rules about chores that I live by. And it’s a philosophy shared by my partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother. To help her with her ironing when she was recovering from a stroke.
We never go to bed without straightening up the living room.
Navy blue leather couch cushions turned over. And rotated. So the cushioning wears evenly.
Decorative pillows put back in place.
Wood stove banked. To keep the farmhouse warm overnight.

In the days before I got my very first job. When I was 13. Working on Saturdays in a department store. From 8am to 6pm.
And wanted things. That were beyond the scope of my fifty cents a week allowance to afford. No matter how long I saved up.
I had to ask my parents for the money to pay for them.
Whether. Or not. I got what I asked for. Depended on how well I could answer this question put to me by both my mother and father.

When we – me and my partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother when she needed help with her ironing when recovering from a stroke, realised our gift to his mother was now an accidental business, we wondered how we were going to sell it to the public.
In large quantities.
Dipping our toe in the water of retail at rural field days. Agricultural shows. Smaller home shows. We were always asked this question: how long will it last?
Because.
At most of these events, the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover was the most expensive ironing board cover.

I refuse to have an ironing basket staring me in the face with the words ‘Chore Hanging Over Your Head’ figuratively written on it.
This is what I do instead.
Shirts are hung on their wooden hangers to dry in the shade outside. Then hung in their respective closet. Jeans are folded and put on shelves. Linen is folded and put away in their respective drawers or closet.
My partner, Victor Pleshev, an architect who designed all the products in the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies range, irons his own clothes.
And irons what he’s wearing on the day. He was taught to iron at an early age by his mother, Margarita. Whose first job as a Russian immigrant into Australia in the 1950’s, with poor English, was working in a laundry in the back blocks of the western suburbs of Sydney.

Special occasions. Remember them?
We go to extra trouble to look our best.
Making sure our garments – shirts, dresses, suits, gowns – are perfectly pressed to within an inch of their life.
Remember the feeling of putting on a beautifully pressed garment?

G'day from 'The High Country' in rural Victoria.
Thank you for visiting my website. I love that you're here.
Your participation in my rural business is a dream come true. One of the highlights of my life.
Whenever I visit a new website. I always want to know how much postage and handling is.
So upfront. Our flat rate postage and handling charge is $16.95 per parcel.
Regardless of how many items you put in your parcel. Or where you are located within Australia.
We live and work from our remote rural property in 'The High Country' of Victoria.
In the picturesque foothills of the Victorian Alps.
All parcels are despatched via Australia Post.
Our post office is in a remote location. So we post parcels once a week.
We hope you understand how the tyranny of distance affects a business that is in a remote, rural village.
We post parcels on Thursday. From orders received by 3pm on the day before. Wednesday. And send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
For our international customers, please check with Customs in your country to see if they impose extra charges on your parcel once it enters your country.
For my UK customers. It's with regret that I will be unable to continue to post parcels to the UK. The new requirement from the UK is that VAT be collected by all online merchants when an order is placed. And paid to the UK before your parcel leaves Australia. As well as. Calculate the duties payable on your parcel. To be able to complete a customs declaration. Unfortunately. I'm too small a company to justify the infrastructure required to do this.
Every Thursday. From our rural alpine village. We post orders received by 3PM on Wednesday.
We then send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
And we hope you love everything in your parcel. ~Carol❤️
