I’m an early morning gal. Always have been. Even as a young child.
In summertime, after we left New York City for small town life in southern Virginia – and before daylight saving was a twinkle in anyone’s eye – I was up and on my bike at 5AM. Riding to the nearest cornfield.
To settle down amongst the cornstalks.
To not only watch the sun rise. But to breathe in the aromatic fragrance of corn ripening in the fields.
As a New York City bred young girl, this was a heady experience for me. Which I never missed when the sun was shining.
Decades later, nothing much has changed.
Every morning at sunrise, I take a walk on my 54 hectare rural property in the hill country of the Central Tablelands of NSW. This time with my camera instead of my bike. And photograph the ever changing mix of wildlife that visits my picturesque property on a regular basis.
It was a grey start to this morning. And the early dim light wasn’t good enough for a clear, crisp photo. But I love this too much not to share.
As I was opening the paddock gate for the walk home to my farmhouse, I sneezed.
And spooked this little joey. Who frantically hopped beside its mama for protection.
But kangaroos are ever curious.
I closed the gate. And started along the Lombardy Poplar lined walking track that leads to home.
And this little joey couldn’t resist having a peek at the Paddock Paparazzi who scared it.
