Packaging.
The most wasteful part of every product.
As a manufacturer.
I pay.
And as a consumer.
You pay.
For something that will be thrown away.
In 1994, when we launched the Fitz Like A Glove Ironing Board Cover, we approached packing companies.
Because.
All products need to be ‘packaged’.
The response was overwhelming.
Minimum quantities were 10,000 units. For a throwaway item.
In 1994. We were still broke. From Paul Keating’s ‘the recession we had to have’ in 1992.
We couldn’t afford this expense.
My partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother. To help her with her ironing when she was recovering from a stroke.
Said no!
We can do better.
And we did!
There was a strip of fabric left over when the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover was cut out.
It was just enough to make a pocket. To encase the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. And make it look like a handkerchief. Poking out of a pocket in a tailored suit.
This pocket becomes a utility bag. That hangs from a hook on the Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover. Under your board. And holds a spray bottle. A clothes brush. And anything else your heart desires.
And for Allen from Wagga Wagga. His bottle of scotch. When he irons on Saturday. Watching sports on TV.
Living in the bush. We hate waste.
We live a life of recycling. And we apply that to all of our products.
This pocket for packaging. Adds no cost to the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. And looks so stylish. People love giving it as a gift.
