Shirley rang today. I was on the telephone. So she left a message on my Telstra MessageBank.
She wants to place an order. Her message ends with: “And I just love your products”.
When I ring, she’s soooo happy to hear from me.
Today is her 6th order. Over 12 years. She was given her first Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover as a gift. 20 years ago. She thinks.
Shirley tells me this order is a Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover for her. Renewing a cover she purchased many years ago. She doesn’t need a new Superior Felt Underlay. Because. She ordered two at once previously. So has a spare. But keeps giving her covers away. And has no spares.
Today’s order is also for a Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover and Superior Felt Underlay. A gift for her granddaughter. Who has just moved out of home.
Looking back over her orders, while I’m talking to her, I see a remarkable pattern.
In 2004, Shirley orders a Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover for her daughter. And one for her sister-in-law.
In 2008, she orders a cover for another daughter.
Again in 2008, she orders a cover for herself.
And a Log Lugger as a gift for a friend.
In 2012, she orders a Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover and Superior Felt Underlay for another granddaughter.
In 2013, she orders a Log Lugger for her son-in-law.
I read these orders back to her. She remembers every one. And says I’m always top of her list as a gift for friends and relatives.
Why? I ask?
Her answer.
Not only is the quality of every product superb. But the warm, personal, friendly approach she receives when placing an order makes her so happy.
Not everyone wants to order online. And some feel cheated when they ring a company to order. And are treated in a brusque. Abrupt. Indifferent. Manner.
Our desires haven’t changed much in a billion years. And most of us like to feel that we matter to a company when spending our hard earned money.
Do you agree?
