When we were researching fabric to use for the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover, we discovered we were in a steep learning curve.
Just what is the best fabric to use? If we want to give you a 12 month wear and tear guarantee? And which will withstand the heat of an iron set to high?
And what is currently being used for ironing board covers?
So many cheaper ironing board covers were made of synthetic fabric. Made in Romania. Which looked like someone’s nightie. Burned easily. And had holes in them within the blink of an eye.
Then there were the ironing board covers that were made of curtain fabric. With acrylic backing.
These were a thin layer of synthetic fabric. Glued onto an acrylic backing that perished as quickly as foam underlays.
Cotton fabric with a cross weave isn’t as durable as fabric with a diagonal weave.
Cross weaves tear easily. And wear out much more quickly than a diagonal weave.
What type of fabric is made with a diagonal weave?
Cotton drill.
This is the same fabric that Stubbie shorts are made from. King Gee work clothes. And other hard wearing. Durable. Garments.
So cotton drill it was.
But not just any cotton drill.
190gsm cotton drill. Because it’s a heavier weight. Will withstand the heat of an iron. Is hard to break the threads. And will shape to the contour of your board. And fit it not only like a glove. But look like a beautifully tailored suit on your board.
It must also be colourfast. Because no one wants colours bleeding out onto your garments which you’re ironing at the last minute. Just before that important night out. Or that wedding you can’t miss.
Our choice of fabric is tough enough for ironing.
And with a 12 Months Wear and Tear Guarantee. It’s served you. And us. Well.
When we guarantee our product against wear and tear, we can’t afford to have it let you down.
And in 23 years. It never has.
