Packaging.
The most wasteful part of every product.
As a manufacturer.
I pay.
And as a consumer.
You pay.
For something that will be thrown away.
But is that a given? That packaging must/will be thrown away?
My partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother. To help her with her ironing when she was recovering from a stroke.
Said no!
We can do better.
And we did!
There was a strip of fabric left over when the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover was cut out.
It was just enough to make a pocket. To encase the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. And make it look like a handkerchief. Poking out of a pocket in a tailored suit.
The initial thinking was this pocket was to hang from a hook under your Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. As a utility bag. To hold things like a spray bottle. A clothes brush.
And whatever else your imaginative mind conjures up!
Such as, a handy spot to keep safe a bottle of wine while ironing.
What we didn’t count on . . .
. . . was the number of customers who LOVE giving the Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover as a gift.
Because of the distinctive. And classy. Way it’s packed.
Wedding presents.
House warming presents.
Thank you for the wonderful weekend we just spent with you.
Gifts for sons and daughters who have just left home for their first ‘home away from home’.
Sons and daughters to elderly parents who consider this to be the safest way for an 80+ year old to keep their ironing board cover on their board.
And simply a gift from someone special. A friend. A relative. To someone special. Because they know their ‘someone special’ needs a good ironing board cover. And to them, the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover is ‘the best’!
What started out as a decision to not waste remnants of fabric by using them to keep the cost of manufacturing our product down.
Turns into an easy to make decision to give as a present – an ironing board cover – that’s so elegantly packed. And perfectly presented.
The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover has taken the two of us on a journey that never ceases to surprise us.
