Innovation often comes from outside an industry. An architect turns the humble ironing board cover into a low-tech breakthrough. And takes ironing up to a whole new level.
An Architect Designs The Perfect Ironing Board Cover For His Mother
There’s always a reason why some things work. When others don’t.
Here’s the story:
I’m Carol Jones. My partner’s mother, Margarita, had the same problems with her ironing board cover that you have. Except that her problems were complicated by the fact that she had just suffered her 2nd stroke. Which left her with no feeling in her right hand.
She really was seriously struggling to keep her cover on her ironing board.
Her son, my partner, Victor Pleshev, an architect, said there has to be a cover out there that will stay put. So one Saturday he went shopping in Sydney. And brought her back 7 covers to try.
Not one of them fit her board properly.
They were either too small. Too big. The elastic wasn’t tight enough.
And she couldn’t pull a drawstring taut enough.
Victor. Wanting to help her. Said that:
“If I can design a multi-story building to stay up. I can design an ironing board cover to stay on my mother’s board.”
Using his 25 years experience as an architect.
And his knowledge of building and construction techniques. He designed a cover that would never move.
It was a breakthrough solution.
He anchored the cover to her board using an easy to use flexible tension cord that criss-crosses over 4 hooks underneath any board.
A simple solution. To a difficult problem.
Margarita was given her cover as a surprise birthday gift.
She loved it so much she told all her friends. A week later. 20 of her friends wanted one. Through word of mouth, another 50 covers were ordered. Before long, we had made 500 covers on the dining room table of our farmhouse on our remote rural property.
An accidental business is born. Which today, is nudging close to 500,000 customers. In 30 countries.
What we made for Margarita is the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover. Guaranteed to never move on your board. For any reason. And this is why it always shows off its bottom. Because it’s its best feature. The underside of the Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover makes it special for a lifetime of trouble free ironing.
From 1994. To 2008. Victor and I travelled 60,000kms every year. Exhibiting at any event that would let us set up a microphone. And spruik. From then to now. We’ve talked to thousands of men and women about the woes they have with their ironing board cover.
The Fitz Like A Glove™ Cover solves every problem you hate about ironing board covers. That’s a promise.

G'day from 'The High Country' in rural Victoria.
Thank you for visiting my website. I love that you're here.
Your participation in my rural business is a dream come true. One of the highlights of my life.
Whenever I visit a new website. I always want to know how much postage and handling is.
So upfront. Our flat rate postage and handling charge is $16.95 per parcel.
Regardless of how many items you put in your parcel. Or where you are located within Australia.
We live and work from our remote rural property in 'The High Country' of Victoria.
In the picturesque foothills of the Victorian Alps.
All parcels are despatched via Australia Post.
Our post office is in a remote location. So we post parcels once a week.
We hope you understand how the tyranny of distance affects a business that is in a remote, rural village.
We post parcels on Friday. From orders received by 3pm on Wednesday. And send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
For our international customers,
please check with Customs in your country
to see if they impose extra charges on your parcel
once it enters your country.
For my UK customers. It's with regret that I will be unable
to continue to post parcels to the UK. The new requirement from
the UK is that VAT be collected by all online merchants when an order
is placed. And paid to the UK before your parcel leaves Australia.
As well as. Calculate the duties payable on your parcel.
To be able to complete a customs declaration.
Unfortunately. I'm too small a company to justify
the infrastructure required to do this.
Every Friday. From our rural alpine village. We post orders received by 3PM on Wednesday.
We then send you an email to let you know your parcel is on its way.
And we hope you love everything in your parcel. ~Carol❤️
