I love the way ironing transforms a crumpled mass of wrinkles into a smooth, sleek, soft to the touch, divine to wear garment.
I have one of the original ‘hoodies’. Dating back to the late 1980’s.
An off the rack Stuart Membery garment. Beautifully designed and finished. With the hood and cuffs lined in a check fabric similar to the lining of a Burberry Trench Coat.
It’s made of a light weight blue denim. With structured pockets. Flat felled seams. And decorative top stitching.
I’m sure that at the time I purchased it, it would have been more a windbreaker for a cool, windy day. Rather than the shapeless ‘hoodie’ of the Mark Zuckerberg era.
After all these years, it shows no sign of wear. And it’s my garment of choice for my sunrise walk in the paddocks.
I wash it in my Miele front loader – which I absolutely LOVE! And hang it on a hanger to dry in the shade.
Even with all the care in making sure it doesn’t go into a tumble dryer, it is a mass of wrinkles after being washed.
But once I start ironing it, as I did early this morning, the lightweight denim fabric becomes sleek and wrinkle free. Smooth as satin. And soft as silk.
When I put it on over my blue pin wale corduroy jeans that are tucked into my Blundstone gumboots, I just know the kangaroos and birds will appreciate the care I take with my presentation before greeting them for the day.
My partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother to help her when she was recovering from a stroke, says I always leave our farmhouse for the paddocks in ‘glam it up’ mode. Make-up. Bling. Perfume. Perfectly ironed clothes.
It’s how I want to start every day. No matter how early.
Ironing really is my gateway to luxury!
I am not only an Ironing Diva. But as one friend says, I am ‘The Queen’ when it comes to ironing.
