I found you in an old Machine Embroidery magazine. I bought a so called metallic cover. It was alright when I was using the iron on wool, synthetics, but as soon as I turned up the heat for linen, the iron slid onto the cover and melted. All in 2 seconds. I had a hard time cleaning my iron. By the way, I have always hand stitched my covers in place to keep them tight. I’m getting too old for that stuff now so I have treated myself to a Fitz.

I received the navy cover and have sent back the white one.

I was blown away by how quickly you sorted this problem out for me. It is easy to buy online these days, but how a company deals with problems is when you find out how good the company is.

To have you reply to my email within a couple of hours (out of business hours), with a heartfelt apology and a solution. Normally you need to print out a QR code to take to the post office and return the item in the original post bag, then wait for them to send you the correct item.

What blew me away was that you sent me the correct item (navy cover) with a return envelope, so all I had to do was pop (the white cover) into the post office when convenient.

It was all so quick and easy for me. I’ve got my lovely new ironing cover that fits perfectly and I’m actually looking forward to doing the ironing!

My cover arrived – a day later than the USPS tracking showed, but that’s fine.

I notice how well you pay attention to details, such as the sticker tape on the outside of the package to warn me not to cut the envelope, but rather to use the tear strip. I was glad to see that because I most likely would have tried to use scissors since I did not see the tear strip until I looked for it.

I needed my husband’s muscles to help put on this new cover, as it is really tight on the board. I’m sure the elastic will settle and stretch a little as time goes on.

You are right, no cat will be able to chew on this tension cord as it is much stronger. :))

It is a pleasure buying from you. If I ever get to Australia, I may try to look you up because I so enjoy meeting special people like you folks. ??

I had checked tracking on Friday and the delivery date was February 1st, this Tuesday. I just checked USPS again, and it still says my cover is due to arrive February 1st. I plan to send you an email when I receive it.
Another blizzard is predicted for Wednesday (however, I told it to go away! ?), so hopefully my “Fitz like a glove” will be on my doorstep by then.

To answer your questions, the superior felt underlay is wearing so successfully that I had totally forgotten I had gone to the effort of purchasing it when the gifted ironing board cover I received the previous Christmas turned out to have no underlay. This one is beautiful, and everything I expected. I most loved that it could be cut to size.
In fact, the underlay was such nice quality that I kept all my offcuts in my craft cupboard thinking they may come in handy for a future project.
Your email to remind me of the warranty period and saving was a nice touch and much appreciated.

Roughly 20 years ago I bought an ironing board cover through the Association for the Blind. It actually worked, unlike every other ironing board cover that it had been my misfortune to use up to that point.

I then bought one each for my sister and mother as presents, who responded just as I had.

Then I forgot the name of the product.

As the years passed, the elastic deteriorated, but I could not face the process of dealing of any other ironing board cover. I figured that this one, as deservedly tired as it was, was better than embarking on the frustration vortex of the alternatives.

Last night, I noticed that the little tag with the care instructions appeared to have a manufacture’s name, but it had been stitched over so that it couldn’t be read. I unpicked it carefully, and found your company name. It was like finding gold from a treasure map.

I then found your website, found that I can still get the ironing board cover, but also a Log carrier which I also need.

I’ve just ordered them.

Many thanks for designing an excellent, useful, product, making it out of very high quality materials, then most of all, refusing to destroy it by lowering the cost of manufacture and materials. If more people stuck to those principles, Australia (and not just Australia) would be much better off.

As you know I ordered two covers and two underfelt – one for me and one for a lovely friend, another Carole (with an “e”) !

Words cannot express how happy I am to have found this website. It ticks all my boxes in terms of a solution for all my ironing needs at home. It is genuinely rare to find a wonderfully well designed product which for the most part, is made in Australia by locally sourced materials (where possible). I have a steam station (brand: Braun – German engineering design but made in China unfortunately) which has a dedicated ironing board to which the cover is literally on its last legs — the steam generated from my iron/steam station is wonderful, but unfortunately the condensation forming underneath the iron board is ruining the experience (the foam underlay has deteriorated severely, which I suspect is the reason for this occurrence). So I sincerely hope this solution solves all my problems, which includes finding sub standard products at all the homeware stores I have visited lately to which everything is made in China (much to my chagrin).

I bought my cover more than 17 years ago ( I didn’t want you to think I was telling fibs) from a shop called Home Yardage here in Canberra. I had tried over the years to get a new one but I couldn’t remember the brand. I came across the little bag that it came in and it had the name embroidered on it so I went searching.
It is still in very good condition with no signs of wear, but over the years it has done heavy duty with five members of the family putting it through it’s paces. However it now does have a multitude of stains gathered from all the hard work it has done!

1. Are you getting the wear from your Fitz Like A Glove Ironing Board
Cover that you expected
I am, my old iron leaked quite a bit of water, I was very grateful for
your tips on prolonging the life of the board cover and the care of it.
I tried my best to minimize the leakage of the water on the new cover.
The iron moves over it freely, easily.
2. What do you like best about your Fitz Like A Glove Ironing Board Cover?
It fits the board perfectly, does not move or crease when I iron. It is
a no-worries cover. (When I use other peoples ironing boards- not often,
I can feel the difference, I find it difficult to iron easily, their
covers move more than the clothes and causes uncontrollable creasing)
3. What do you like best about buying from us?
It helps to know that I am supporting an Australian company that
utilizes a section of the workforce that finds it difficult to get work.
That is a family run, small company that gives a personalized touch. The
fact that there is a phone number available to talk to someone if needed
is really nice. I find it difficult when you deal with large companies
that they do not want to talk to you, they would like to just take your
money.

Really happy with ironing board cover and underlay. I have struggled to find a similar good quality underlay to the one I bought in England that came over with the ironing board in the shipping container when we moved to Australia. The underlay makes ironing so much easier and quicker.
My ironing board itself is very sturdy and was bought at clearing sale by my then future father in law as an engagement present back in 1987 for 1 pound sterling. Pretty sure the ironing board was once part of an RAF base and used by servicemen doing National Service.

I just loooove the ironing board cover & it was the only cover I ever found that fit my mums 50 + year old ironing board . Well, very sad news … Unfortunately I’ve ironed my last shirt on that board , it finally succumbed to old age a couple of weeks ago . A very sad moment for me . I lost my dear mum when I was 14 years old & one of my most vivid memories is standing next to her as a child , with my toy ironing board & toy iron , stealing all the hankie , pillow cases , tea towels & undies to iron myself ! Every time she put her iron down , I would press my iron against hers to heat up & would happily do this for hours !!! That’s the 70’s for you! I’m not sure my kids would have called that fun.

So we have a new board now , thanks to Costco. It’s very short & wide like my old one & thankfully the new cover fitz like a glove??

Thanks so much for your message. Yes, parcel arrived safely and I’m thrilled. The cover that came off my Mum’s ironing board was the same colour, but had become very thin and did eventually tear.
I think she would have bought it through the guide dogs ordering catalogue, so would have had it for a number of years. When my Dad died in 2002 I inherited the cover which had already done lots of work – it only ‘gave up the ghost’ in the last few months !! Because I ordered the same green it now looks as though the rips and tears have ‘healed up’ !! Of course with the better padding it is better than ever. Congratulations on a brilliant product. Yes – its kept its shape and the surface is still in good condition.

I like the colour (crisp white) and the crisp quality of the cotton. But to be truthful, the thing that gives me the most satisfaction is the underlay. It’s marvellous and makes it nice to iron. The clothes look better too.

Hello Carol & Victor, My apologies in my delay in replying.

I am delighted with my Fitz like a glove ironing cover and Best Boy cloth and would like to thank you for all the advice you have given. I did as you indicated and used a pure wool blanket doubled, cut and shaped to the ironing board and then attached my extra large Fitz like a glove cover to my 43 year old Frazer ironing board.

Both John & I actually enjoy ironing now as the underlay actually fits and the ironing board cover does not move at all and the Gumleaf colour looks fantastic. We both agree the clothes are easier to iron and are crease free. I have mentioned your product to my daughter and daughter in law and will let my friends know about your products. In fact when my daughter goes overseas in a couple of weeks I will order a cover for her, it is a very small ironing board will have to measure it first.

Once again, John & I cannot thank you enough, it has definitely made our lives a lot easier and that’s what you need at our age.

I recently found an Australian made clothes airer and when it came discovered it was made by the largest non-government charitable organisation for people with a disability in Victoria. None of this was mentioned on the website where I found the airer.

The cover arrived today & i am really happy with both products & i appreciate that the cover was designed on the K.I.S.S.principal ie Keep It Simple Stupid @ this really works for me. I didn’t trim the underlay as i felt it wasn’t too big, so that when i pulled the over it the fit was great without having to cut it any smaller. I smoothed out the wrinkles & ran a warm iron over the surface & it’s turned out great.

I purchased one of your ironing board covers through a fund-raising campaign. I have had the cover for at least 6 – 7 years. I washed my cover yesterday and the material frayed in one section so I was desperate to replace it as it has been the best cover I have ever used. I tried ebay to see if I could find your covers but no luck. I was contemplating making my own and was studying the cover when I noticed the tag. I was able to make out the company name and did a Google search. To my delight, I found what I was looking for and ordered a replacement immediately! Hi. Today I have been flipping through some old stitches magazines and came across your advert I have an OLD (49 years old – I received for my 21st birthday) ironing board 18 x 54 inches I can see that the cover will fit – my question is will the Superior Felt Underlay be large enough? by looking at your website it says the underfelt needs to turn over the edges to stop the wear on cover. I hate ironing but love my board for its size – one of my daughters has warned my in no uncertain a manner not to get rid of it as she can iron her jeans in one go without realigning them (she is tall). I am interested in buying the 3 piece package if it fits – I am sick of asking in stores for a cover to fit my board & I live in Sydney!!! heaven help anyone who lives in a country area. My story is as follows.
I have a very small ironing board that folds up and slides into a drawer in my kitchen. For years I could not fine a suitable cover. The ones available were all too big and/or too bulky and I was getting desperate!
Then, several years ago (5, maybe 7, maybe more) I stumbled on your stall at Mosman Markets.
I bought one of your large ironing board covers and some underlay. Once home, I did some unpicking, cut the cover to size and reattached the webbing etc. It worked perfectly! From memory you did not have a small size available at the time.
The cover fitted like a glove. It has never moved or wrinkled and the underside is so neat and steadfast. And the fabric has been very quite hard wearing -it’s had a constant use. But it is well past it’s use-by-date! What an amazing product! I just love it! And it has made ironing (almost) a pleasure! Would not settle for anything else.
Now I need a new cover urgently. Have been searching for your product to no avail. Would not counter anything else! I always seem to always miss the Mosman markets. Today, in sheer desperation, I did a Google search and found your web site. Am so excited! Can’t wait to get my new cover!

Good Morning Carol,

The research and the ordering was done by Lorraine.  My name is Ross, the husband of the aforementioned Lorraine.

I retired six years ago as the Senior Partner of a Firm of Chartered Accountants in Adelaide. We moved to the Gold Coast to enjoy the 300 days of beautiful weather. Lorraine thought that she had several more years of work in her, and soon started working again. Devastated!!!  Hi Carol, this is my second time here for another ironing board cover….the felt underlay is still beautiful and I love the pressing cloth to bits. However, today, while pressing some antique French linen (I collect sets), my iron malfunctioned and burned a char mark into my cover, and scorched the napkin…I think I can save that, but the cover looks like it is ruined! I am so upset, I have loved this cover and until this, it had years left in it. I really wouldn’t buy anything else! Everything you say this cover is – is exact! Sometimes when you buy things you don’t get what you are thinking you will, but not in this case. I COULD still use the current one, but it has a slight hole in it now, and a horrible charred burn mark on it…I think I will use it as another layer underneath the new one. There is even a burn mark on the felt from this incident! Needless to say, I have just bought a new iron; something went horribly wrong so I won’t use it again. Please pass on my thanks to the clever hands that make these covers as I wouldn’t use anything else…ever.

I live in Arkansas, USA. Yesterday, I finally laid your ironing cover on my ironing board. Our ironing board is an Antique which has been in the family for over 50 years, I am sure. It is a sturdy, very long “old fashioned ironing board made of metal!” quite different from those made to-day! EVEN THOUGH . . . . Can you believe that your ironing cover fits perfectly! My mother passed away in 1969, at which time I came by this wonderful monstrosity of an ironing board. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 41 years, I have a lovely, bright golden ironing board cover in place, no wrinkles, no additions,no strain, no problems. IN FACT CAROL, it FITZ LIKE A GLOVE! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. . . could not be happier. And to think, I have almost as pretty a maroon one to replace it with, if and when I choose, and, I may just do that, because IT WAS SO EASY TO PUT ON. A big thank you to the thoughtful person who stuck the sticky tape to the felt underlay bag and made it so easy to pull off by tucking the ends of the sticky tape under. It’s a great idea. I hate trying to get sticky tape off plastic. It’s not good for the fingernails. Thank you for the lavender. I have some growing at home. I quite often just make a trip to the lavender and rub it between my hands, just to smell the pleasant smell it has. Originally I saw an advertisement in the Australian Stitches Magazine. Then looking through the internet one day came across your website by chance – ordered an ironing board cover and underlay – then a friend saw my ironing cover and asked me to order one for her. The same has happened again. This time I am going to have one for my normal ironing and another for my craft work. With a spare just in case. Many thanks. It doesn’t move like the usual elastic edged ones I can normally buy in the department store and the underlay has been fantastic. I also ordered a brass cat hair remover, which has been great, not only for the cat, but my daughter’s corgi also. It has certainly earned it’s pay in this household. I even do the carpet with it as my husband has put a long handle on it which can be unscrewed, making it much easier on my back. All the very best with your products.

I have just had a bit of a browse through your blog about various experiences with Fedex, David Jones, and the melt-down of your fax machine. I like that your blog is well written and humorous, but nevertheless pretty close to the bone. I have also had some frustrating experiences with courier companies, large stores who won’t do special orders, and who employ staff who have absolutely no idea about their merchandise (which means that even those who would like to offer a high standard of customer service are incapable of doing so, due to no fault of their own). I bought my Fitz Like A Glove ironing board cover from you when you had a stall in Greenwood Plaza, North Sydney. I’m not sure of the exact year, but I was working in North Sydney at the time, so it was between January 1995 and July 1998. After all that time, a few washes and much use, the fabric has finally worn through in one tiny spot. Amazing! A few years later, when a neighbour constantly complained about the poor quality and fit of her ironing board cover, I bought one for her (and a spare for me). I know she has gone on to buy more for members of her family. I have just placed an on-line order for a new Fitz Like A Glove (and new underlay) and I know it will be of the same excellent quality and fit as my original. You may wonder why I needed another one when I had a spare? My son “stole” it when he finally moved out of home permanently and “couldn’t cope” with the ironing board cover his girlfriend had. I just wanted to let you know that I love my new ironing board cover. My board came originally with a flimsy cover and a foam underlay that had actually melted in parts to the board and had to be peeled off. The new felt underlay is thick and luxurious and fabulous to iron on and I love the crisp white cotton cover. It’s so much easier to iron without having to readjust the cover the whole time. And it looks great too. I am thrilled with it and will definitely recommend it to everyone.

Dear Carol,
Just a quick note to let you know the Fitz Like A Glove ironing board cover+felt+cloth arrived in Friday morning’s (18/4/2008) mail. I gave my Mum’s 40ish year old Frazer board a thorough spit&polish and put on the cover which fits snugly and perfectly. Apart from a few age spots on its legs, the board with its new cover looks as good as new, and should be good for at least another 40 years. My dear Mum (recently departed) would have been very pleased with the result.
I must thank you for your rapid and helpful reply to my query through to final receipt of the parcel within four days of order placement – superb. Carol, like you said I would love this ironing board cover. I iron for a family of four, all adults. We have become spoiled having just about everything ironed. I’m retired and for some odd reason I love to iron. I have my Mothers old ironing board which the top is made out of wood, she received this as a wedding gift in 1938. The only problem is that I can’t even find it when I need it….it seems to ‘travel’ and not put back where it is supposed to be kept! “Good evening,
I’m having a minor crisis here today – after threats of death to my 6 year old if he opened the nail polish bottle… well, now my beautiful ironing board cover (which I love) has a glittery burgundy nail polish stain right in the middle. Have you any suggestions aside from dabbing eternally with nail polish remover (which is not working all that well)? I’m a bit worried that leaving it still quite prominent and them ironing over it might do something horrible to my clothes. Regards,

This is a first!
First, take your cover off the board so the nail polish doesn’t penetrate into your underlay. And definitely don’t iron on the nail polish. You’ll just set it so it can’t come out. Second, we need to experiment here, so will get back to you tomorrow. Third, don’t kill your son. Childhood is about experimentation and pushing the boundaries. Think back to your childhood. I’m on his side. As a child, my parents wanted to kill me a gazillion times, but once I reached adulthood, they were grateful they let me live!!!!! You’ll hear from us tomorrow. Take care,

PENNY,
The only solvent that will remove nail polish from fabric is acetone. All my nail polish removers contain acetone and one also contains acetone and amyl acetate, another recommended solvent for removing nail polish. Which is why I’ve never had a problem removing nail polish from fabric.Your nail polish remover is perhaps the safer and softer approach, acetone free nail polish remover. You can purchase pure acetone in small quantities from hardware stores and some chemists. It’s handy to have around the house, in a safe place, away from 6 year olds, because it removes paint, varnish, lacquer, melted plastic and adhesives from items. Here’s the best way to approach this. Please keep in mind it takes some time to remove the polish because you can only do a little bit at a time, to prevent the polish from smearing and spreading. First: If the polish is quite hard, soften it first with a hair dryer. Second. Lay the spot face down, on a hard surface, over a layer of paper towels. Third: Working from the back, dab the acetone on IN SMALL DABS with cotton wool. Change the cotton wool frequently to keep it clean. You have to keep dabbing until the polish is completely removed. Fourth: Once the polish has been removed, clean the area with a small amount of methylated spirits. This works as an antidote to the acetone. Like removing paint from brushes and then washing them in soap and water. Fifth: Soak the cover overnight in a laundry detergent solution and wash
the next day. I’m not sure if the Buttercup colour will stay in with this approach, but as you’re dabbing in a small area, it will limit any discolouration from spreading. I use this technique when I spill nail polish on fabric and it has always worked for me. I just needed to check my bottle of nail polish remover to see the ingredients and also check my gargantuan library of stain remover books! The secret ingredient is the solvent acetone. Yes, the nail polish remover I grabbed in haste is one which is acetone free, and hasn’t been terribly successful. Hubby’s at the supermarket at the moment, and will hopefully get some with acetone. Extra frustrating as we’ve temporarily moved house for a few months and left lots of stuff behind at the “other” house, including (of course) the acetone nail polish remover – after all, why would I need it?
And yes, I won’t kill my son, tempted as I am. My mother often comments that she’s glad she didn’t kill my brother when he was young – he’s now very handy for reaching high things, lifting heavy things, and fixing computers.
I’ll let you know how I get on. It had gone through to the underlay, but only barely – it’s a slight discolouration on the underlay, probably not enough to worry about, though I might try a quick dab with the nail polish remover to see what happens. Cheers,

HI again Carol,
Just thought I’d update you on my progress – the acetone nail polish remover worked much better than the other stuff, and had the nail polish out in less than 10 minutes. I didn’t have any metho to hand (everything I need is always at the “other” house) so I had to skip that step – also didn’t use the hairdryer because I don’t even know where it is! I ended up soaking it for nearly 24 hours, as we lost power for a while so I couldn’t use my machine (it never rains, it pours!). But in the end, it’s come up quite well – there’s no nail polish colour left, just a sort of pale grayish mark where the polish was, which is probably only noticeable because I know it’s there. There doesn’t appear to be any loss of the buttercup colour, phew.
Thanks for your help – it seems the acetone was indeed the magic ingredient, despite what I’d read in my hasty search through internet stain removal web pages!
