Business Is A Tough Gig. The Rule Of 5.
 

If you’re a lumberjack. Back in the days of axes. And saws. And no petrol driven equipment. The ‘Rule Of 5’ prevailed.

No matter how large the tree. If your axe makes 5 cuts per day. You will eventually fell the largest tree in the forest.

This pertains to real life as well.

If you have a goal. And you do 5 things per day to reach your goal. You will eventually surpass your wildest expectations.

This also pertains to running a business.

In 1994, when we launched the The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover And Other Goodies. My partner, Victor Pleshev, the architect who designed the Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Cover for his mother. And I. Had no idea what we were doing.

We were the blind leading the blind.

Both of us came from the service industry. Victor. An architect. And me. Carol Jones. A market research consultant. Running our own businesses in an old soap factory. On the water on Mort Bay. In East Balmain. NSW.

What did we know about the retail industry?

Absolutely. Nothing.

But I knew that if you didn’t take action. Nothing happens.

I also knew about the ‘Rule of 5’.

So every day. Without fail. I wrote down 5 things we needed to do to move this new business forward.

Some things worked. Others didn’t.

But it was always the same discipline.

What were the 5 things we would do today to make things happen?

This is no miracle cure. Things don’t happen overnight. We aren’t an overnight success by any means.

But by having the discipline to go forward 5 steps at a time. We eventually garnered 400,000 customers. In 30 countries.

For a humble ironing board cover.

Business is real life. And what happens in business. Happens in your personal life as well.

If you have a goal. Write down. Every day. The 5 things you can do to move forward to reaching your goal.

The ‘Rule of 5’ is failsafe. It will never fail you!
